Do As I Say

If ever you have thought to yourself, "Wow, that Mary Beth girl is one smart chick. She really knows what she is talking about."

Then now is the time you must take action and follow my instructions:

1. Go to The Pioneer Woman Cooks

2. Follow the recipe for Apple Dumplings

3. Eat and sit back and watch as your husband melts with happiness and becomes your slave!

Here is her version:

And here is mine (her pictures are a whole lot better than mine):

Rachel Ray Who? This woman ROCKS!!!!

(and you know if I can make them, then it MUST be pretty dang easy)

PS: And yes Shauna, to answer a past comment, I do get excited when I cook something and it actually turns out edible!

You can thank me later

I owe my life to Annalee (actually to Tiffany) but any-who.

Google Reader has just changed my life and saved me many, many hours of stalking people.

Try it out!!

Does anyone know how to add the feature that will make it say "updated in the last 12 hours" beside the person's name in your favorites if they have a new post? This would save me a lot of time stalking everyone. THANKS

Brynn, Brynn....oh where to begin

Here is Brynn in her "pretty dress" (A.K.A: my pillowcase)

Brynn has always been our 'talkative', 'not-a-shy-bone-in-her-body', 'never mets a stranger' kind of child. She is never speechless nor does she mind meeting everyone we come in contact with. Some of the things that come out of that girl's mouth absolutely blow my mind. I find myself saying, "Where in the world did she come with that?" about 10 times a day! Let me share some examples:

MB: Brynn get your fingers out of your mouth and quit biting your nails. (yes she bites her nails BAD) If you cannot quit biting your nails, then mommy is going to put something on them so you won't bite them!

(Brynn looks at her fingernails, looks back at me, and ponders a moment)

BL: You put birfday cake on my nails?

So we are waiting in the doctor's office yesterday and of course Brynn feels the need to go around introducing herself and introducing Sadie to every child in the waiting room. I hear her go over to a little girl and strike up this conversation

BL: Hi what's your name

RG (random girl) stares at her like who the heck are you

BL: My name is Brynn and this is my baby sister Sadie

RG still staring at her

BL: What is your name

RG gives no answer and her mom is now talking to Brynn. I get up to go save the poor RG and out of my child's mouth comes

BL: Do you want me to sing you a song?

RG: Yes

BL: What song you like? How bout Twinkle Twinkle Star?

RG: Yes

And oh yes, my child proceeds to bust out with "Twinkle, Twinkle" in the middle of the waiting room complete with motions!!! I don't think there is even a way to describe my embarrassment but she looked so darn cute!

We are eating dinner and I tell Brynn to finish her veggies. She begins this little speech without taking a breath:

"I eat my veggies and they make me be big girl and then I get to go to school and ride the bus and wear a backpack and color with colors and use scissors and gwue (glue) and go with the boys and girls and play at school?"

MB: about you just eat your vegetables for right now!

She absolutely never ceases to amaze me!

I know this is random, but here is Brynn in May 2007:

And here was Sadie today:

How do you spell relief?

As I sit here in the most comforting silence please realize:

My house is CLEAN, like really, really clean. The laundry is done, like ALL done. I am clean, like fresh from the shower wearing still-warm-from-the-dryer (you get my drift) PJ's. Cozied up in our big chair with a warm fuzzy blanket.

Justin is working (as always)

The kids are in bed.....asleep.

So.....what am I doing?

Working on our taxes?

Getting caught up on work stuff?

Returning emails?

I am on my second dilly bar from DQ and my second hour of spider solitaire!

Now this is relaxation the Mary Beth way. Good Night

And now us....

I thought we could avoid it.....but it has happened. Family member #1: Justin and member #2: Sadie are now officially SICK! (Insert all my expletives here)

I was hoping we could avoid all of this junk that everyone is getting but NOOOOOOO we got it. Now it is the waiting game for member #3: Brynn and finally member #4: me, to get the funky-funk (because it always travels through the whole fam). I can be happy to report that it is NOT the flu. The diagnosis we got today is double-ear infections with sinus-gunk and fever. Just enough to make for one very fussy baby. Poor thing! So, get this:

We get to the doctor and the lady asks me, "And how old is Sadie?"

I respond, "16 months," while I am adjusting my purse, diaper bag, and looking for my cell phone.

"And when did you say her birthday was?" She replies

"August 20th, 2006!" I give her in an annoyed-because-I-have-way-too-many-things-in-my-hand voice.

"'am...that would make her 18 months old today." She timidly says.

Yeah-I completely suck as a mom right now. I got to spend the whole hour in the waiting room counting and recounting how old she was. Where did those 2 months go????? WOW-second child syndrome at its best!

So in honor of Sadie being 18 months old today, here is a picture I found!

Fun Night

Well, we had our birthday fun night after all and it was AMAZING!! We stayed out waaaaaay too late and spent waaaayy too much money so you know it was a great night!
(I have no clue why we felt the need to pose in our garage????
And can we say Mary Beth needs to find a tanning bed ASAP.
And no my husband is not stoned although he looks it)

Happy B-Day BABY

Happy Birthday Justin!!! We have been so pumped for this weekend for awhile now. Justin's birthday is today and we are kid-free! Now before you going dancing a jig............get this........Justin got called out today and won't be back until late, late tonight.

So: no dinner, no dressing up, no staying up late, no going out with all of our kid-free friends, nope......just me at home......alone.......blogging! YUCK! (no offense blogging friends)

We will still get to go out tomorrow night, but I am just really bummed about not getting to celebrate his "birthday night"

I guess I should have seen this coming. If this doesn't freak you out I don't know what will

Well, when life gives you know the rest. I will post a few pics of the lovely ladies.

The girls got Justin a Shrek shaving kit for Christmas and since he hadn't used it yet, Brynn asked if she could have it. She has been in hog-heaven ever since!

The other morning, I was feeling a bit lazy and didn't really want to cook breakfast so I sliced up bananas and the girls had "breakfast in bed". This will not be an ongoing tradition as I had to wipe banana goop off the bed, nightstands, wall, dresser, etc. Although, it was well worth not having to cook.

Well, I am off to catch up on all of my DVR'd shows. Hmmmmm......where should I begin.....let's start with Ellen.

Happy 20 Years Dad!!!

Yesterday we took part in a surprise celebration for my dad honoring his 20th Anniversary as pastor of First Baptist Church Buffalo Gap. I couldn't even begin to put into words how proud I am to have such amazing parents. As different members came up and spoke about my dad, one thing was true with all of them. Each person had a specific personal memory of him outside of church. Whether it was sitting with them through a surgery, a death in the family, marital problems, or sharing the road to salvation with them.........he personally had touched so many people. Not many people can say that about their pastor. I was brought to tears hearing of all the times he was there to serve our church members. He has such a huge heart and sensitive spirit....maybe that's where I became a bawl-bag from!
We were suppose to be a surprise to dad, but when they started playing the tribute video to him, all you could hear was Brynn yelling, "That's Papa and Grammy!"........"Look that's Mommy and Daddy and Me!"....etc, etc, etc

Of course the girl's favorite moment was dancing on the stage after church ended.

Here is the whole Joiner (my maiden name) clan
L to R: Uncle David (linda's husband), Aunt Linda (my dad's sister), Sadie, Me, Brynn, Mom, Dad, David (my brother), Mandi (his wife), Papa Ennis (Dad's dad), Grandma Nina (Dad's mom)
Not picured: Justin......called out for work.......OF COURSE!!

Gettin' Down and Dirty

On Friday, my dad and Brynn had a special day of cleaning out his car. He had told her on Thurs. that they were going to do this the next day and she was so excited. She would not stop talking about it all night. Through dinner, bathtime, and going to bed.....all we heard, "me and papa get to make his car all cween (clean) tomorrow!!!" I have no earthly clue why she was so pumped about this but she was ready to go as soon as she woke up. Here is my sweet baby hard at work. Child labor laws don't apply when the child wants to work.....right?!?!?

Sadie joining in on all the fun!!

And here is one to leave ya with. This is Sadie's new way of eating: Take a bite, rub it all in your hair, take a bite, rub it all in your hair, etc.

I really don't have much to say, but I am trying to do better about blogging so we'll see what I can drum up.......

I am off on Tuesdays during the day because we have started "Family Night" at the store and since I will be working tonight, I chill at home during the day. We are trying to promote "bringing your family back to the dinner table together". Cool idea I Justin will be bringing the girls up there and we will eat as a family along with everyone else. It was nice to be off today since it is raining and yucky outside. I finished all the laundry, which reminds me that I need to add that to my list of things that make me happy. I love knowing that the laundry baskets are empty and everything is clean.

Next week is Justin's birthday (Feb 15). No big plans, but we are kid-free that weekend! Can you hear me counting down the days? Just not really, I am dead serious.

Although, I do have to tell my horrible mother story. We had no sitter for the Super Bowl and I was selfishly bummed really bad. I was just having one of those 'me, me, me' days and wanted to hang out with all of our friends (none of our friends have kids). I was pouting and feeling resentment towards the girls. (that is really hard for me to admit). It's just sometimes I get frustrated that we have never had a kid-free marriage.....horrible I know. So as I am sitting on the couch being the worst mother in the world, Brynn comes over and climbs up beside me and cuddles into my side. She looks up and says, "Mom, I wuv you cuz you are my best fwiend."

My stomach dropped and I got misty-eyed. How horrible of my to feel anger to the two most innocent angels in the world?! I sucked it up and said, "I love you too, baby."

Lesson learned. God knows just what to do and when to do it!

These are a few of my favorite things.......

Emily had a great idea! Since this is the month of love, then I will also think of things that make me smile. (I will have to be creative with the whole picture thing since my camera is dying)

1. My sweet Brynn cuddled up to me right now. Every night after we put Sadie to bed, we have our 'special' time with her. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

2. This snotty-nosed face full of innocence and imagination! Sadie never ceases to amaze me with some of the things she does or the faces she makes. I could just simply watch her play for hours and hours because she is simply the funniest, weirdest child I have ever met!

3. Freshly vacuumed floors (insert picture here). There is nothing like walking in to a clean house that smells good! Sometimes if we leave in a hurry in the morning. I will break around lunch and come home and clean the house so that I can come home to a 'clean house' when I get off work. Yeah-weird!

4. Watching Justin play with the girls. He comes up with the craziest games for them to play together and they never make sense. I thank God for having a wonderful father for my girls.

5. Ellen Degeneres. I honestly think she is the funniest celebrity out there. I can laugh at absolutely anything that woman does.

6. Last but not least......FOOD makes me smile! Snickerdoodle cookies, cinnamon rolls, Quiznos, shrimp, iced animal cookies, bacon, etc. (I didn't realize how hungry I was until I wrote all of that)

I know that is a very random list but that is how I am feeling right now. (And yes, there are many more things that make me happy but I decided to limit it tonight)

Happy Month of LOVE!
