Priceless

Seeing your child's first reaction to Santa: priceless

Brynn was so overwhelmed by the whole Santa concept-it was adorable! I would go into all the boring details, but you get the picture. Fun was had by all!!

Santa Picture

Last night we did the traditional trip to go see Santa. Oh wow what a nightmare! We had to wait in line for a little bit so I was trying to get Brynn excited about Santa so that she wouldn't be scared of him. So, the whole time I am telling her "Santa is the man who gives out Elmo's!" Over and over I kept saying this to her. Finally, a little boy (age 3ish) turned around and said, "He gives out other toys too!!!!" Oops! Ticked him off!

Even after all of the excitement Brynn still got freaked out by the whole idea. Oh well, maybe next year!

SKI TRIP

You are now reading the blog of a Type II skier! Oh yes, you heard me right.

When we first got there we had to fill out these forms about how good of a skier we were. You had to be a Type I (beginner), Type II (intermediate), or Type III (expert). I asked if there was a Type -III but they didn't have that. I was the only Type I skier, but throughout the trip I got promoted to a Type II!!! (I promoted myself, there was not an official ceremony) By the time we left I was skiing blue trails! I really did enjoy myself, although I HURT everywhere! I did miss my babies soooo much, but it was a good break for Justin and I to have some quality time together.

Last night when we got home my mom informed me that my child was a big fat pig and that she wanted to eat ALL the time! So, we decided to go for the first taste of baby food. (No, I don't need your comments about how she is too young for this). We had tried the rice cereal before but it was a no-go. Last night the entree was applesauce, and let's just say she is a BIG fan of it. I am going to try and sneak some cereal into it later. My babies are getting so big!!

AAAAHHHHHH!!

I know, I know, .......long time!! Things have been an absolute madhouse around here! I forgot to bring my camera to work today, so I will have to put pictures up tomorrow. This weekend was Christmas party mania. We had my work party Friday night and then I hosted a party for all of my girlfriends Saturday night. I am worn completely out! It was much craziness. And can I tell you that I absolutely love the Chinese Christmas gift exchange (or whatever you call it). I just think it is so fun to steal gifts and not know what you are going to get!

This Wednesday is going to be a big day in the Leach family! Are you ready for this......

Justin and I will be going on vacation.......with NO kids!

Oh yes you read that right! His parents are taking us on a ski trip for our Christmas present! We will be flying out of Abilene at 6:30 in the morning, getting to Denver at around 9:30, and hitting the slopes at around noon. We will be gone until Sunday so I am a nervous wreck about leaving my babies for that long! Now, I must mention that I have only been skiing once in my life and I was 6 weeks pregnant. Needless to say, I sucked REALLY bad. So, if I come back in multiple pieces......you will know why. Please pray that I don't go completely crazy without my girls. I have never left them for this long.

Great News!

We got wonderful news! It was the calcaneovalgus malformation like we thought it was, but she will not need any casts or braces! He said it was caused from the way she was positioned inside me and that once she starts walking, her muscles should get stronger and correct itself! Praise God! I feel like a 100lb weight has been lifted off of me!

I will leave ya with a story:
On the way down there, we pop in "Finding Nemo", get everyone situated, and away we go. So, as we are going down the road I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look down and see Brynn standing between us. It took me a minute to realize what was going on, but apparently I had just put her in her car seat and not buckled it. OOPS! Guess it was the nerves!

Have a great day!

Please Pray

Please say a prayer for us. We will be leaving tomorrow to go to Fort Worth for Sadie's appointment. She will be seeing Dr. Hamilton at Cook's on Monday at 12:30 for her feet. Thank you!!

SANTA SECRET

Crazy weekend! I could go with the usual after-thanksgiving-talk-about-the-family-post, but that is boring and you all know it. Soooo.....I thought I would share with you a little Santa secret. Brynn will have a TMX Elmo waiting for her under the tree this year! (Thank you to a generous cousin!!!) Justin and I got it out and played with it. Holy Moses that thing is crazy!!!! We laughed hysterically.

Here is a video of one in action:

and of course, no post is fun without some pictures:

Picture Hell

Please take a mental picture of Brynn at 19 months......now picture Sadie next to her in a matching Santa dress. They are both smiling and looking absolutely adorable. That is what COULD have happened had my daughter decided to cooperate! Wonder what I am trying to say? Well, we took the girls in their matching little Santa dresses to get their picture made. Ummmm......bad, bad, REALLY BAD experience. Brynn refused to get her picture made. She screamed so hard that her face was red and swollen. I was in tears and Justin wanted to inflict "tough love" on her. So, we got a lot of pictures of Sadie, but none of Brynn. I guess we will try again at home. Oh by the way, that picture is of Brynn crawling around in the waiting area. Yeah......niiiiice!!!!

Sadie's feet

I wasn't going to post about this because we haven't really told anyone, but the more I thought about it....I thought the more prayers the better. We noticed this last week that Sadie's has a 'clubbed foot'. Actually it is not a truly clubbed foot, but I don't know how else to describe it. It is both feet, but much worse on her left foot. The way her left foot is in the pictures is how she keeps it all the time:

I know it is mild and could be much more severe, but it still has freaked me out pretty good. We are going to a podiatrist on Monday November 20 to have some x-rays done and see where we need to go from here. I think the right foot can be corrected with exercises, but the left one may need a corrective shoe or something. I don't think casting will be necessary. So, any prayers or suggestions will be appreciated. (PS: the lacto-free formula is not helping so it looks like we may be going to soy soon)

Sorry about being a debbie-downer. ANYWAYS! The girls are going to Justin's parents this weekend so that we can celebrate my birthday (it isn't until Tuesday, but oh well). I am pretty excited about getting to sleep in! I am getting the girls picture made next week, so that should be very interesting. Other than that, nothing much is going on here. Have a fabulous weekend!

Help please

Does anyone have any information or experience with having a lactose intolerant child? Sadie has just been having a really rough time here lately and they have switched us to a lactose-free formula. Any advice would be appreciated!

Potty Training

We have started introducing the potty. We are not in full force potty training mode, but just starting the early stages. We had been reading books about the potty, looking at the potty, etc. Well now we have started sitting on the potty. She doesn't 'go' in the potty yet, but just sits on it and sings. She loves to go potty! Actually, truth be told, she just likes to take her clothes off. I think that is the only reason she likes to go potty.

Well, last night she comes up to Justin and tells him, "potty" as she proceeds to begin taking her clothes off. Justin takes her into the bathroom and I can hear them in there singing away. I go back there and peek my head in to see how things are going and Brynn suddenly gets quiet, looks at me, and says, "bye!" I stand there for a minute and then she says it again, "Bye-bye mommy!!" Justin looks at me and says, "Well, you heard her! Bye!" I was in shock! My baby did not want me to potty with her! Even though she still did not go, she came out and told me all about the potty and how she said bye-bye to her pee pee and poo poo (that is what we do when we flush). I guess she will just continue to be a daddy's girl. I think he got a kick out of the whole situation. Oh well, I will remind him of how she only wants him to take her potty whenever she wants to go at some inopportune time!

Halloween

Well wasn't Halloween just grand with a little 19-month old! Brynn was a devil and Sadie was an angel.......hmmmm.....wonder where we got the idea for that one. We went by our nieghbors, my grandmothers, and my brother's house. Brynn didn't grasp the whole concept of trick or treating but did like the idea of hitting Sadie with her pitchfork.

We have hit a jealous period where Brynn doesn't like Sadie being around. Anytime we are leaving somewhere all together she will say, "Bye Sadie!" and then gets upset when she realizes Sadie is coming with us. She doesn't like me holding or feeding Sadie either. I know it is just a phase, but she has got the whining and pouting down to an art!

Other than that, nothing too exciting is happening around here! I can't wait to see everyone's Halloween pictures!!

Costumes

Here we are on are way to a Halloween party!!! It is scary how real Justin's costume looked. I don't think I could handle the mullet! Sexy Ref!
On another note....we got to spend Friday night in the emergency room with Sadie. She got her two month immunizations on Thursday and apparently had a severe reaction to them. She didn't eat or sleep for 24 hours straight and ended up really sick. She was running high fever, developed a rash, and her eyes were very swollen and purple. I freaked out! She would just scream and scream. All is better now but it was very scary for a little while. They took her blood and it came back normal so that was good news.

Terrible.....19 months?!?!

Is it possible for a child to hit the 'terrible twos' at 19 months? If so, I think this is what has happened to my child. For example:

1. She took her pants and diaper off the other night, crawled in Sadie's swing, and POOPED in it!! Oh yes! THEN proceeded to swing for awhile until I noticed all of this had happened! VERY nasty mess!!

2. She has discovered boogers! So, now she wants to pick her nose all the time. I guess it is like digging for a prize. Yeah-gross!!

3. She takes her diaper off all of the time at night and pees her bed. This means I have to wash all of the bedding almost everyday!

4. If you don't have Sadie fully strapped into her bouncy, Brynn will go over and drag her out and then proceed to drag her around the room.

Now I know most of you are saying, "Where are you while all of this is going on?" I promise I don't neglect my kids. I swear these things happen in a matter of seconds. I can go change the load of laundry and come back to one of these things. It is crazy!!!!!

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

Random Thoughts

Nothing really has happened, but I had some down time here at work so I thought I would post a random thought post:

* Sadie is two months old today! She went to sleep last night at 10:30 and woke up at 7:00! Pretty impressive (this is the only time that has happened). She is starting to smile now which cracks us up. Sometimes she will laugh out loud, but it scares her and she starts crying. Pretty cute if I do say so myself.

* I am getting an IUD placed today. Won't give too much detail on that one (google it if you are curious). For some reason I am kind of nervous?!?

* Brynn is learning to count. We can count from 1-10. I say 'we' because I say the odd numbers and she says the even numbers. If I try to go past ten she just starts back at 2. Weird kid.

* My homecoming for Hardin-Simmons is next weekend. Not sure if I want to go or not. I will just have to see who is coming into town. (thanks a lot Ry for ditching out!!) Justin dreads this weekend....let's just say he isn't too fond of my 'college memories.'

* We watched The Inside Man and The Sentinel-I highly recommend them. Good ones!

* I am really craving stew. I always do when it gets cold.

That is all my randomness for today. Since no post is good without pictures.........here are some random pictures to go with my random thoughts!!! Have a good weekend!

The Mullet

I finally convinced Justin that Brynn needed her first haircut!! She was growing a full on mullet. It was so horrible! Yes, I gave her an at-home haircut but only because it really was just a few snips here and there. I have been traumatized by the at-home haircut in the past and will not subject my children to that in the future-I promise!

The front before:
The front after:

The back before (told ya it was a mullet):

Yes, I know she looks upset in every picture but I promise you she was not permanently emotionally scarred by the at-home haircut!

BK vs AK

Let me take you back to a time.....a time when I had a booming social life, skinny clothes, money in my bank account, etc.....you know that time.......B.K. (Before Kids). B.K is simply a time where you have the most unrealistic ideas of parenting that you think are very realistic. Then comes A.K. (After Kids). This period is defined as a time where you begin to realize that your unrealistic ideas of parenting truly are unrealisitic.

Let me give you some examples from my own dream world of parenting.....

BK: "I am never going to take my kid into public without them wearing a cute outfit."
AK: I took Brynn into Walgreens the other day in her pajamas (which consisted of a purple onesie and some fruit-punch red capris), no shoes, and dried lasagna on her face.

BK: "I am not going to have millions of toys all over my house. She can have a few good toys so that my house won't look messy"
AK: We have a toy basket in every room it seems like, not to mention all the toys I find hidden in the car.

BK: "My kid will eat what I feed her. She will not pick and choose what she wants for each meal."
AK: I think Brynn has had a pop tart for breakfast for the past week.

BK: "I will still watch all of my shows on TV. I will not be controlled by the cartoon channel."
AK: Not only have I seen "Finding Nemo" 3 times in the last few days, but we even watch it in the car as well!

Here is my point to all of the this rambling:
BK: I had a friend whose son went through a Blues Clues phase. Oh God it was horrible! All of his toys were Blues Clues, his clothes were Blues Clues, and even his birthday party was Blues Clues. I remember thinking that this was a little out of control and totally stupid. "I was never going to let my child be obsessed with some stupid cartoon character. She could wear regular clothes like everyone else!"

AK: Yup, you guessed it. Brynn has hit an Elmo phase and it is just the cutest thing in the world! I guess I have now become my worst fear......one of those moms!

Poxies

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Nothing too exciting happens around our house I guess.

We no longer have any kittens at our house!! YIPPEE!!! We found homes for three of them and the other two went to 'go make other boys and girls happy' (aka: The Pound)

Please note: I love animals...I really do! You have to understand that these kittens have been living in Sadie's room, climbing all over everything, and sharing a litter box. So, not only do I not have a nursery for Sadie, but no matter how much you clean....it just STINKS!! They were eight weeks old and the man at the pound told me that since they were litter box trained that they would be adopted out pretty fast (yes I understand that he probably tells this to everyone but I don't care it made me sleep easier that night). Now that I got that off my chest...onto the story....

Our cat's name is Roxy and Brynn calls her 'Poxy' thus making the kitten's names 'Poxies'. Ya follow? On the way to the pound, I turned 'Memo' (aka: Finding Nemo) on in the van thinking this would occupy her while I ran them inside to drop them off. She is very into her movie and hardly notices that I get out of the car. I come back and start to back the van up and that is when Brynn asks in a whiny, questionable voice, "Poxies?" Okay, ummm...what do I say to that? "Mama, poxies???" (this time more upset). I tell her that they went to go play with other boys and girls. Then the breakdown happens. "Poxies, poxies, poxies!!!" I felt so horrible! I guess I traumatized our poor little 18 month old. Now she just keeps going over to Sadie's door and asking where the poxies are. Yeah, I suck!

And the worst mother award goes to.......

I am THE WORST mother in the world! I know you are thinking, "whatever, you are overreacting!" Oh just wait and see what you think after you read this.....

Okay, so yesterday I get home with both the girls. I parked really close to the garage door on accident. So, I walk around and get Brynn out of her car seat and shut her door. I walk around the back of the van and proceed to get Sadie out. Well, I hear Brynn crying....I assume she is crying because she is used to walking around the front of the car and she couldn't fit between the van and the garage door. So I yell over to her, "Brynn come on, it is okay just walk behind the van." I am now getting the diaper bag, my purse, etc out of the car so I am hot and frustrated. Brynn has not come around yet. So I yell again (sternly this time), "Brynn hurry up so we can go inside." I start to walk towards the house and realize she still has not come and is still crying. So, I set Sadie and all of the bags down and stomp (very angrily by this point) around the van as I am yelling, "Brynn quit playing around and get inside the house." I get around the van and see that Brynn's fingers have been shut in the door! I absolutely loose it!!!! First of all, we have a van that has the automatic shutting doors that I thought were suppose to be childproof!! I never thought this could happen. I get her unstuck and run inside to rock and cry together. I wanted to take her to the hospital, but Justin calmed me down and convinced me that there was no permanent damage. So, today she has a swollen, reddish-purple index finger. Way to go Mary Beth!

See, now what do you think!!!!

The Little Helper

I think we are going to have to start keeping an eye on big sister! Yesterday my mom had the girls and I guess Brynn thought that Grammy needed a little help with Sadie. Mom walked into the room and found Brynn attempting to change Sadie's diaper. She had pulled her over to the bars, gotten a new diaper out, set it beside her, and had gotten one side off when mom found her. Now if only we could figure out a way for her to get up and feed Sadie during the night........hmmmm......

One Month Old

Sadie is now one month old! I would say it has flown by, but that would be a big fat lie. Now we are going through the 'fussy phase.' From 10pm-midnight EVERY night she screams. It doesn't matter what you do or how you do it, she is not going to be happy. Finally she will just lay her head over and crash out. By then I usually have a headache and Justin wants to sell her on the black market. Luckily, both girls will sleep in until about 10 but this won't do me much good when I go back to work. Maybe this will be a short phase!

Nothing too interesting has happened here. We are going to a wedding Saturday night, so we will be baby-free!! I told Justin that I didn't even know if I was more excited about going out or getting to sleep the entire night!

Long time...

I know it has been awhile since I last posted, but things have been a madhouse around here. Sadie got a royal case of thrush. I am talking all in the mouth, around the tonsils, and down the throat. Needless to say, we didn't get any sleep for a few days. She is doing much better now and even sleeps five hours straight at night! It's funny how the first time they sleep for a long period like that it freaks you out! I woke up every hour making sure she was still breathing and then wondering if I should go back to sleep or if she was about to wake up. I woke up Justin to tell him how long she had been asleep, but he wasn't impressed at all. Oh well!

We went to Dublin (Justin's parents) and Brynn had a blast riding the 'tractor', mom on the other hand wasn't too impressed.

Let me zoom in on that for ya......
Yeah, I was a little freaked out by that one!

My dad took us to the fair and Brynn mainly just enjoyed looking at all the lights.

Justin was just thrilled to take another picture! (and no we did not plan the oh-so-cute matching green outfits!)

Grandparents

Since Grandparent's Day is coming up (you can thank me later for reminding you), I thought I would post some pictures of the girls with their grandparents.

Meet Grammy Betty and Papa Steve (my parents)......yes I know Sadie looks a little weird here.

And this is Papa Chuck and Nana Pearl (Justin's parents).......and yes I know Brynn looks like she just did something really bad.

We are so blessed to have such wonderful grandparents who take such amazing care of our kids!!!!

Pictures

This is the picture I was trying to upload the other day. I don't know if this is a hug or the beginning of a headlock.........
Brynn was helping me give Sadie her first tub bath. I think Sadie drank a little water during the process, but Brynn enjoyed getting to help mommy!

The Circus

When it comes to kids, "one is one and two is ten"!! I didn't really believe this until yesterday. Both girls had doctor's appointments. No big deal-right?! Let me just give you rundown of the morning. Their appointment was at 1:40. I decided to starte getting things ready early so we could take our time and go by the pharmacy on the way.

Things that had to be done before we left:
1. Get myself ready, (Wash, dry and straighten my hair & put on make up)
2. Bathe, feed, and dress Sadie
3. Wash off and dress Brynn
4. Feed everyone lunch

Not that bad right?!?! Keep in mind my mother and grandmother are there to help me out. At 10:45 I get in the shower, wash and dry my hair, and then when I got out to straighten it I realize that my straightener has mysteriously gotten a huge crack in it and therefore no longer closes. This is not good for someone with curly hair that has now blow dried it into a huge frizz ball. Okay, so we go old school and use the curling iron to straighten it. Next comes lunch. No big deal, but it did take up some time. Brynn of course throws all her food on the floor and refuses to eat. This means I cannot give her Tylenol on an empty stomach...great! Sadie has now decided that she does not like her bath and is screaming hysterically. This in turn freaks Brynn out who now starts to cry. I go to wash her off and she is having a serious meltdown. We finally get them bathed and dressed and I swear it is like 115 degrees in my house and I am now pouring sweat.
Since we have both girls dressed we decide it would be a good time for pictures. Big mistake. If it wasn't Brynn wanting to get down, it was Sadie putting her hands in front of her face. I think we got one good picture. (which of course blogger won't let me upload)
By now, I am realizing that my pre-pregnancy jeans that I swear I fit back into are getting a little tight and I am about to puke! We decide it is time to leave (1:15-still making good time). We are walking out to the car and as I am loading Sadie in the van, saying bye to Nanny, getting the diaper bags loaded, I turn around to see........
Oh yes, Brynn standing ankle/calf deep in rain water by our curb!! Oh, I lost it. Not only was she about 1 foot from the street, but now her feet were wet and muddy.
Let's just say we barely made it on time to the doctor and EVERYONE took a nap when we got home. My favorite comment of the day was when Justin got home and said, "Why does the house look like a disaster area, you only had one thing to do today?!" Yeah, I could have slapped him!!

Update on Life

Things have been going good so far! I have actually been impressed at how much easier this has been then it was when Brynn was born. I guess we just know more of what to expect.
Brynn came home on Wednesday and we were expecting a total disaster, but she surprisingly has adjusted very well. I am really recovering pretty easily and quickly. The nights have been hard, but that will just take some time. Thank you all for your comments. I haven't had a chance to catch up on everyone's blog, so I will try to do that this week. I would like you to note the expression on Brynn's face in the first two pictures. Now you know why we were expecting a disaster!!!

Here is Sadie 3 days old
Sorry I don't have any good stories yet. I promise to not keep you bored for too long!!

Sadie Jean Leach

SADIE JEAN LEACH

Born: August 20, 2006 11:03pm
Weight: 7lbs 5oz (20.5 inches long)

I will have to make this short and sweet SORRY! We don't have internet at my house, so I am borrowing a computer to post some quick pictures. Basically the story goes........I had contractions all weekend, went up there Saturday night and was sent home (yeah that was embarrassing). Sunday we worked on her room and just cleaned up around the house. I started having contractions at 4:00, but didn't want to go back up there and be sent home. So, I called my doctor at around 6:30 and he told me to go up and get something for pain (basically I think he wanted to give me some stout drugs so I would quit bothering him). BUT....when I got to the hospital at 7:00 I was dilated to a 2!! YIPPEE!! She said that they would watch me for a few hours and see if I kept dilating. Well, an 1 1/2 hours later I was a 5!! I got my epidural at 9:30 and went from a 5 to a 10 in one hour! I had Sadie at 11:03 pm. Talk about a fast labor! Brynn was asleep at my parents house, so they woke her up and brought her up for pictures. (that is why she looks a little lost) She is in Dublin with Justin's parents until the weekend to give us some time to get settled in.

The name:
We got Sadie from the TV show, "The O.C." (if you think that is bad, we got Brynn's name from "The Real World: Las Vegas")

Her middle name Jean, is my mother's middle name. I had a sister, Debra Jean, that had a cord accident and was a stillborn. So, Jean has been in our family and we wanted to pass that along.

I will try to post more pictures when I can get internet time!! Thank you for thinking of us!

Baby Talk

We have a new addition to our family!! Actually 5 new additions!

We were watching TV yesterday and Justin asked me if I had seen Roxy lately. I started thinking and realized that I hadn't seen her in a few hours. So, we started the great cat hunt. We searched everywhere for her. I am talking in cabinets, behind the washer, in closets, etc. We came to the assumption that she had ran outside while one of us was walking out. Justin goes driving around looking for her and letting the neighbors know what is going on. We were upset because we knew new kittens would never survive out in the heat. We give up the search knowing that if she went outside we would probably never find her. About an hour later, Justin keeps saying that there is no way he would have missed her sneaking outside. SO, another cat hunt begins. We are looking all through the house yelling her name. Sure enough, there is Brynn two steps behind us yelling, "Poxy" (that is her version of 'Roxy'). We look all around the little labor and delivery area I had made her complete with food, water, a quilt, box, and towels (to protect my new carpet) but ya know......why on earth would she deliver where she is suppose to!! We go into Brynn's room, Justin leans under Brynn's crib, lifts up the bedskirt and sure enough there she is cleaning up herself and the kittens. They probably weren't even 30 minutes old. We rushed Brynn out of the room because it is probably best that she not even know they exist. I called my mom and she asked how many she had and I replied, "I see five kittens and six pacifiers!" I haven't gotten to really look at them because, well I am just too fat to lay on the floor and look under a crib. From what I can see, the daddy was an orange tabby. I will post more pictures when I get them.

Onto, other issues. I went to weekly doctor's appointment and we have good news and bad news.

WARNING: Female topic approaching......

I am dilated to a 1!!!!! YIPPEE!! (obviously the good news) but my cervix is very unfavorable for delivery right now so he wants to give me one more week to 'soften' (that would be the bad news). He has scheduled to induce me next Tuesday. He will recheck me on Monday to make sure everything is better and then Tuesday will be the big day. I could always go into labor between now and then, but at least I have a final date....that does give me some peace of mind and at this point that is all that matters!

Sonogram

37 weeks 4 days today! Went to the "weekly exam" yesterday and everything looked great, but no dilation yet. I didn't gain anymore weight, so the total weight gain this pregnancy is 23 pounds. If that is the case then why today on the sonogram did my lovely little girl weigh........7 1/2lbs!! Brynn weighed 6lbs 4oz at 39 weeks! I just can't figure out how this has happened since I have gained half the weight that I gained with Brynn. As you can tell I am a little shocked right now! Overall, I really am feeling great just physically unable to do a lot around the house. Justin has been such a sweetheart helping me cook, clean, and take care of Brynn. He really has been a trooper through all of my various personalities!! I will see my doctor every Monday from here on out, so I guess we will just have to wait and see!!

As you know my mother is keeping Brynn now while I am working. Here is what my lovely child has gotten to experience at Grammy's house.............DIRT!!!!
